Recently, a lot has been publicised about the impending 'robot revolution' and the impact this could have on the human workforce. However, some companies seem to be moving in the opposite direction.
Mercedes have recently replaced automotive assembly robots with human workers. Why? Well, apparently the robots couldn't comprehend the intricate operation.
So, does this mean we no longer have to worry about the rise of robots? Well, no, not exactly. Mercedes - and many other companies - are still integrating robots into the workplace, mainly for routine and repetitive jobs. However, when it comes to skilled work we can rest assured - for now at least - that we're safe.
“Robots can’t deal with the degree of individualization and the many variants that we have today,” Mercedes' head of production Markus Schaefer told Bloomberg. “We’re saving money and safeguarding our future by employing more people.”
