The volumes of data produced by connected people all over the world are leaving more than a digital footprint behind. The Big Bang Data exhibition at Somerset House is exploring the datafication of our world and how data affects everyone.
From individuals using social media to companies managing vast volumes of intellectual property and customer information, like our universe, it seems data will just keep on growing.
Far from being just endless digital waste-paper, this data, the exhibition argues, is the driving cultural force of our time.
The show runs until 20 March.
‘Looking at real time information to show how London feels, we are doing some sentiment analysis on data…It’s really important to us that, people, everyday citizens as well as companies, understand that there is a real value to data, a cultural value. We understand how much data is available and we see it as our role to tell people that this is your information. It can tell you a lot about the society you live in.’
